Type of Carpet Tack Strip Wood
When carpet tack strip was born, it was made of 3-ply Douglas Fir plywood – and has remained the same for over 60 years! Why change a good thing? Well, 3-ply plywood is stable and sound, if all three plies are perfect, without irregularities of any kind. However, when a knot or void finds its way into one ply, it weakens the entire strip – so much so that it may break during (or even before) installation. Halex has pioneered the use of 5-ply plywood in carpet tack strips. Not only is 5-ply strip 20% stronger than traditional 3-ply, but irregularities ruining one ply of the carpet tack strip still leave four strong and reliable plies intact – so even damaged 5-ply strip can be stronger than intact 3-ply!
